The DAAT co-ordinates action to tackle drugs and alcohol problems within Northamptonshire, using an evidence based, outcome oriented approach. Our key role is to formulate policy on drugs and alcohol, and co-ordinate action through commissioning or influencing the development of services to tackle drugs and alcohol problems.
Northamptonshire DAAT seeks to be responsive to local concerns about drugs. We welcome contributions from the general public about specific problems and solutions ordinary members of the public would like to see to tackle these problems.
The DAAT is a partnership, hosted by Northamptonshire County Council. It is accountable to the Chief Officers of the various local authorities, PCT, Police, Probation and other key organisations in the county. The DAAT is accountable to the Local Area Agreement (LAA) structure and works closely with other activity to support the various aims of the LAA, notably action for children and young people and for safer and stronger communities.
Within this structure the DAAT manages its work through a network of key groups which act to drive change and commission services across the county. Key to these are the adult and young people’s Joint Commissioning Groups, a group leading on alcohol co-ordination, and steering groups for criminal justice and to control the supply of drugs.
The DAAT has accountability for budgets totalling £7.2m per annum, in the form of Government grants given specifically to tackle drugs or alcohol misuse. It is not directly funded by local taxation.
Each local area also has a forum which brings together local professionals to help develop small scale local projects. These are co-ordinated by the relevant Borough or district Council.
