At any time the DAAT is always funding work under the headings below. Our top priorities within these headings are currently:
Reducing alcohol related violence, especially around pubs and in town centres, through more policing and better licensing control as well as education aimed at young people.
Reducing drug related offending by ensuring criminals with drug or alcohol habits get into treatment quickly as well as taking responsibility and the right punishment for the crimes they commit
Reducing alcohol related domestic violence
Getting the two area command units of the police to:
Include drug dealing as an offence that needs attention all of the time, consistently, as part of their work, not just in major operations
Gather good intelligence
Plan major operations to take dealing off the streets where the problem is bad enough
Making sure the treatment we have is big enough, in the right places, well run, effective, not expensive, and really helps people reduce or stop using, so reducing harm to individuals and their families
Through information and education, encouraging people to drink in moderation and either not to use drugs or to do so more safely. Whilst this is county wide, we focus our work on those areas with the most acute problems Corby and Northampton
Making sure that people in hospital and at their GPs are screened for drug and alcohol problems and giving them advice if their drinking is too high
Bringing our services to tackle alcohol misuse up to the standard and volume of that available for drugs
Making education a part of every childs life throughout their school career
Reaching out to young people who are especially vulnerable
Helping those who are already starting to develop problems to control or reduce their use through targeted treatment and advice
Making sure those who work with young people in other settings advise young people about substance use and refer where needed
Improve the lives of children affected by parental drug or alcohol use
Reducing the impact on town centres
Reducing the visibility of drug dealing
Making sure public drinking and drug use is controlled
Linking our work to local community priorities, work closely with local area partners and target action towards specific hotspots
Making sure it is accountable and efficient, and has adequate staff
Communicating what we do, and what services do, more simply and more widely
Reducing fear about drugs and alcohol
Working more effectively with our partners in delivery
Integrating action on substance use into the plans of mainstream services
